Between old paintings pulled back out of the drawer and new ones begun beside his hospice bed, this is a book about homecoming twice over — literal drives back through the New Jersey landscapes of her childhood, her father's memory riding along beside her, and the deeper homecoming of finally finishing paintings she'd once tried to redeem, fix, or abandon.
Using her Color Sensing technique — reading and painting the colors of a loved one's spirit — Dorothy painted her father's spirit portrait at his bedside as he lay dying. The book follows the paintings that came after: farewell, grief, forgiveness, and the discovery that grit — the hardest parts of a life — is the very portal creativity moves through.
The painting Oyster and Pearl, born from this journey, gave its name to The Watershed itself — the same healing color practice that runs through this entire library.
